How to connect laptop to pc

Hello, can i just plug my yellow cat5 cable into my pc and then into my laptop aswell to make a lan? can't afford a router at the moment.. Cheers in advance

Maybe. Older equipment used to need a crossover cable because it couldn't auto-negotiate to fix the problem, but newer stuff can. But it isn't req2uired so it mi2ght not work.
