No sound with AWE64

I recently purchased a AWE64 Sound Card. I installed it on my windows 98 machine and installed the drivers. For some reason I do not get sound. I get maybe a halk a second of an alert sound before it is cut off. And I do not get any game sounds. But I do get Cd and so web site sounds.When I look under device manager it says the device is working fine. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do you have an onboard audio? If you do you have to disable it.

I used to get that problem with my AMD/VIA machine. Then I gave up on VIA-problem solved. Try setting your machine to PNP OS-NO and reserving IRQ5 from the resource table. Try moving it to a non-shared slot if you have one, preferably the last slot. Also make sure it's not sharing an IRQ with anything else. You may have to rearrange your other cards also-I had a problem using it with a 3C-905B NIC.
