You could ebay it and get the 670 for 70 more, but again it's kind of a linear move for you.

I'm not sure of the physical dimensions of the 5970 - but the 670 should definitely be smaller, and output less heat/ probably less noise as well.

To conclude:

Only sell your 5970 if you want less heat output with a 670/ possibly less noise (not sure how the noise is on your 5970).

The 670 will probably give you similar performance to the 5970, at less power usage (hence less heat).

IMO i would just keep your current GPU. I was reading some other...
Hello,

My first thought is, what are your complete system specifications (motherboard, PSU, OS)? This would help us make you an informed decision on what upgrades you may need/want.

Also what resolution do you play at?

Also what kind of drops are you experiencing? Is this multiplayer? If so - multiplayer affects your CPU much more due to more action going on.

Your 5970 is still quite a powerful card - packing dual GPU's.

Im currently at 1600x900 but ill be going to 1920x1080 soon, and yes its in multiplayer but i put on vysnc+triple buffering and that fixed it. but im still considiring a upgrade since i cant max out mssa. i have a 850w enermax revoultion 85+ brozen, asus p6t 3way sli ready quad amd ready, windows 7 64bit. i was thinking maybie get a 7950?

Have you tried running your 5970s in BF 3 yet at 1920x1080? I'm sure your GPU has still enough muscle to do so.

If anything an "upgrade" to a 7950 would be more of a linear thing - you will get better cooling and less heat, but probably similar performance to the 5970.

So I would say your in an odd position. That GPU is still a decent one.

I think the best upgrade for you would be a GTX 680. It's more powerful out of the box than the 7950 and the 7970.

iIs MSAA really worth plopping down more dough for a new GPU?

I would firs try it out at 1920x1080, see how it goes for you. Then you could decide whether or not your computer performance merits a GPU upgrade. But IMO, I would save your hard earned $ and maybe just wait until the next GPU refresh comes alone, like a 670TI (if they will even have something like that).

The 5970 is a work horse man, thing is a best. In my desktop i have crossfire 5870's and i have no intention on touching them at all. They get it done without issue. Id keep it, i run bf3 with no issues all maxed out on 1080p
