Warlock imp suggestion needed

As I posted yesterday, I died in the Frostmane caves. I didn't tell how
this happened. As I was moving towards the edge of a cliff, a mob
started firing on me from down there and my pet (on defensive) started
moving towards him before I figured out what was going on.

This meant of course that it dragged a *lot* of mobs with it before it
got down and this caused me (l8 Warlock) and my party (l9 paladin) to
get killed. He got thrown off the server and I got teleported to the
battlegrounds entrance, so it was a while before we met again (it was
hard to log in again for both of us).

But I think this happened before when we tried to get out of a cave full
of yedi's after completing a quest. I feel very guilty about this.

My friend who got me started playing on WoW (l48 hunter) told me they
didn't like you to use pets in parties because they always attack the
wrong people. (and maybe something something agro?? can't remember)

My imp is one of the reasons I choose a warlock, but will I get invited
to parties if this kind of thing keeps going on?

Fighting six yedi's at the same time of about your own level is no fun
(though the paladin had a good laugh because of it :) Dwarfs seem to
have a great sense of humor!).

Regs,
Thomas

Picking the right pet for the situation is as important as picking the
right stance. When partied I usually put my pet on passive and order
him to attack my target specificly (Ctrl+1). Defensive is of no use
anyway as you're not supposed to be one that gets attacked in the first
place when you are grouped.

Most parties I'm in even specificly ask me to get the Imp out (if we
dont need extra Crowd Control from the Succ) if only for the Blood Pact
buff. Its also hard to compare a hunter's pet to a Warlock's demons.
There are similarities, but our summons are rather 'caster pets'
whereas hunters have 'melee pets' (this is quite crude, but is the main
difference anyway...)

I'll put it on passive in the future. Nice suggestion.

You get blood pact very early on in the game. It is good to know it
stays useful in the end game! I have noted that my imp makes a bad tank,
while my l48 hunter friend mainly uses his pet as a tank while he kills
the mob with his bow.. When I solo I mainly tank for my imp :) And that
is where Defensive comes in handy I think..

It would be nice to get more pets like the succubus later on in the game
:) [can't wait! must play!]

The mount would also be very nice, but seems very far away for me (just
made l9 yesterday).

Thanks a bunch!

At level 10 you get the voidwalker, unless I'm mistaken I have the
impression you didn't do the quest yet as its the best pet to solo. It
has two taunt spells and also gives you an escape route in that you can
sacrifice it for a damage absorping shield (not unlike the Priest's
shield). I currently still use the voidwalker as my private tank when
playing solo.

For the void, visit your local Warlock trainer (you'll have to do a
quest to get it, so look for any warlock trainer that has the yellow !
above his head).

Sorry, I misread your L9 for a '19'. Anyway, next level the good stuff
comes in ;)

Any group that tells my Hunter to not use my pet is a group that I quickly
disband from. Pets are not a problem so long as they are used correctly.

Always keep your pet on PASSIVE, not defensive. That's the biggest thing
right there. If your pet will only attack things that you explicitly order
it to attack, then most of the problems that pets *can* generate (when used
improperly) go away.

Imps are fabulous at all levels. They do excellent damage, and buff the
party's HP a substantial amount.

Thanks, I will life by that.. It happened to me once (defensive
setting), but it won't happen to me twice.

later imps r best...
u just let the imp stand on passiv at the tanks spot. so imp doesnt get
any aggro (not doin anything) but Tank has more health cause of imps
buff...

when soloing, have pet on defensive. When grouping have it on passive.
When farming, have it on aggressive :)
I don't know why but I've found my voidwalker better than my succubus
at crowd controlling. First, it has millions of hit points, so he can
'pet-mezz' any mob, while succubus seduction only works on certain
mobs. Not only that, if someone breaks the seduced mob, it will
probably come to me, while the VW builds aggro on the mob instead.
Also, succubus can only mez one target at a time (right?) while I can
order the VW to attack several mobs and grab their attention or use its
AoE taunt.
I use succubus for damage, not for crowd control. But I'm only lvl 35
so what do I know?

And don't forget to teach him the "phase shift" spell. That will make
him invisible and he won't pull aggro when you try to sneak past something.
