Anyone know why when there is a patch it always fails to downloads for hours
after the expected up time, and the WOWeuro site is strangely also always
offline so you cant find out what is going on.

Blizzard took their reluctance to distribute the patches to the extreme
today. They refused to seed the file.

It seems they had a load of trouble (took way over 11am) and might have
considered canceling the update (and hence not distribute and have it
install prematurely).

At least that's what it looks from my position here :)

But all seems well now.

AFAIK it uses some kind of bittorrent protocol for download, meaning
that you can 'trade' parts of the patch you have downloaded with other
players.

Your firewall must allow for this though, but at the end of your
download you should be receiving at the full speed of your internet
connection!

The initial download might be a bit slow as many pl will try to get it
from the Blizzard site directly..

That's nice but I've been at the initial download stage you speak of for 2
hours now. No... wait... that would mean that I actually downloaded
_something_ by now, which is not the case.

Same here.
Yesterday bought the game and quickly downlaoded the 160MB (or so) update
pack.
Today I cannot get the 21MB ->v1.6 patch within *hours*
This has nothing to do with my firewall - even switched it completely off.
And - indeed - very suspecious that the euro support site is also down.

Yesterday I liked the game ....

More people downloading it, should make it faster theoretically. Maybe
pl who get all the files turn off the loader too quickly, so other pl
can't benefit from their complete dl.

Hi,

The Blizzard Downloader is using BitTorrent. You can extract the .torrent
link from the downloader.

But that is not the problem here.

Blizzard has problems to bring the servers up. So you can download the
downloader, but there is no patch to download yet.

The european Homepage is not down, there are just too many people trying to
see it...

It seems, that we must wait some time for the patch :(

Maybe Shareaza has it :) I'll download the latest bittorrent from
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/bittorrent/>, extract the link and
leave it running until my computer crashes..

Guess I must take care to download the EU version of the patch any not
any of the other continents..

Add to that that when the servers are down for maintenance, everyone is
trying to access the website, making it virtually unusuable due to
overload.

It is worse than I thought actually. I remember ordering WoW a couple of
weeks ago in Holland, and when I went to the store they told me Blizzard
stopped selling it for a while because they couldn't keep up with their
hardware and stuff.

IIRC, the date I would have gotten WoW (if I didn't get it elsewhere
instead, which I did), was 13th Juli 2005 .....

Guess what will happen to the servers if everyone here gets it from the
stores today :-(
