a RAID question

can anyone give a suggestion for a good sata raid controller, I'm not sure what to go with considering that there is a wide price range and i'm not too familar with raid, this will be my first time trying it.
(and sorry this isn't about cpus, I just thought this would be the best forum to ask it)
