I have a amd 1090t CPU and do a lot of 3D rendering using 3D studio max. Is there a performance gain between the 2 chips? and if so, is the $200+ pricetag for the FX worth the added gain? Thanks

There's a performance gain. I don't think it's worth $200 though.

Value is subjective though, so here are some benchmarks:

If you spend a lot of time rendering, ~10 seconds per minute might add up to being worth $200.

thats more of a sideways upgrade, just overclock your 1090t, i got mine to 3.6ghz on stock fan with no voltage tweak. 1090t is an absolute beauty.

thanks for the feedback, I don't think I will upgrade due to the minor gain.

The FX 8350 is 25% faster than the x6 1090. Not sure how that is a sideways upgrade. And the 8350 over clocks too.

The question is simply whether a 25% speed boost is worth $190 to the OP.
