These settings are described in the manual for my Fuji S5100. I'd
be very surpised if your manual doesn't explain what these settings
are used for. Do you not have a manual? In any case, the
Photometry settings are used to select the way exposure readings are
taken, and AF Mode settings determine how the camera auto-focuses.
AF area allows it to focus on some part other than the center of the
screen. The other two AF modes on the S5100 are AF Center and AF
Multi. The former should be self explanatory, and in AF Multi, the
camera chooses a contrasty region near the center to focus on.
Anyone wanting to get the most out of their camera should read
through the entire manual, probably several times. And if most of
the features are tried out in the process, they'll be much easier to
remember, especially when you're out taking pictures and don't have
the manual handy. Digital cameras have a big advantages over film
cameras when it comes to learning how to use them. Experimentation
costs virtually nothing, other than a little of your time. And the
feedback it almost instantaneous - you don't have to travel to a lab
or wait for hours or days to see results.
