My fist build.
ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe, i5 3750, Gigabyte Geforce GTX 680, Soundblaster card, one optical, one ssd, one hdd, card reader, Evo 212 and a couple of aftermarket fans.

Okay, everything is together. Connections triple, quadruple checked.
Fire it up before closing case, all seems well. LEDs all light up, the ones on the mobo and case. Fans run.

Close case, hook up monitor, start up again.

No beeps, monitor went to sleep (didn't detect anything).

What's my first troubleshooting step?

So this is where I say yes, I have read the troubleshooting manual and the only thing I have left to try is resetting the cmos or stripping it down

Did you check the CPU socket for bent pins before you installed CPU?

I did, it looked fine. But one I put it in I haven't touched it (pulled to recheck).

Have now pulled cmos battery and pulled power to everything except mobo, and removed all RAM (not all at same time). Nothing. Strange that everything lights up / fans run. If the mobo were shorted out or bad, it would be completely dead, wouldn't it?
