Is this a good system that will last me atleast 3 years and not be obsolite tomorrow figuratively speaking. I just bought a gigabyte GA-H77-DS3H LGA 1155, i5-3570k, 16 gb 2x8gb team vulcan, gtx 480, 2x velociraptor 250 64mb cache satalll (boot raid 0 or 1). I have others to add like coolmax 750watt, gemnll s524, asus pa246q dvi monitor. I run cs6, visual studio 2008, virtual machine for linux, d3 and will play bf3 and maybe a minecraft server.

well you bought it already, so i'm not sure what the point is, but here goes

you put a "K" series over-clockable CPU on to a non over clock capable Motherboard.
you bought a 2 year old GPU (GTX 480) - it's already out of date...
the 250gb Velociraptor drives are kind oldish also and you don't want to boot from a raid 0 setup.. one good system crash and you raid is thrashed. better to boot from a single drive then use a raid 0 as a work drive.
Coolmax is not a goo brand PSU. I suggest corsair, seasonic, antec, XFX core series.

already got coolmax and gemnll for free so I didnt need to buy them and figured ill just give the gigabyte h77 to wife for her i3. I went ahead and got an asrock pro4 extreme. I am new to the overclocking world but have been in the PC industry since 1992 engineering drivers, and working compatability issues for 20 years. the gtx480 is all i need and ill give my gt 220 to wife on her i3 build. Im not a gamer but figured ill get a halfway decent but not the best of the best video card. The velociraptors ill put 2 250s on raid 1 like my dads work station. I wasnt ready for SSD yet because the price per gigabyte and the fact that I will be running a surveillance system 24/7 without shutting it off. I ran my core2 quad q8200 for 400 consecutive days monitoring my dads apartment building, laundry mats, and car washes. I am stepping up to the i5 after 3 successful years of running the core 2 quad. I will be running cs6, visual studio 2008, and virtual machine running linux. I will be playing Age of Empires online along with Diablo 3. Thats it. I am open to criticism because everyone makes mistakes so please criticize.

I actually bought a asrock z77 pro 3 because of the thought of better overclocking abilities. I bought an i3 2120, 500gb wd cavier black, gt 620, plextor blue-ray player/dvdrw, thermaltake 600 watt power supply for my wife to use the h77 board. Ill just turn a mistake into generous gift to my wife.
