Pcie2 slot and pcie4 slot

i been using my iceq 6950 2gb in pcie2 slot 3.0 x16 says in manual used for pcie express x16 lane width graphics cards i was getting stutter and frames were dropping so i tried it in the next slot which is a pcie4 3.0x16 and in manual says is used for pci express x8 lane width graphics cards and game seems quicker and im getting better and more constant 60fps why is this and should it even happen

without knowing your specs; cpu, motherboard, psu and such; i will take a BIG guess and suspect you have an air flow problem in the upper slot and the card is getting hot . . .

highest temp it reaches is 60c and theres proberly better air for is because its nearer my psu in 2nd slot but its more central to with the side fan
