Hello everyone,
I just recently bought this computer :

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2428843&CatId=31

And now I'm searching for a good video card for $100 or less, with a gig of RAM to put in it. I've always loved NVIDIA and all of their products but I'm new to this stuff again and kind of want to switch to AMD or Radeon. Any helpful suggestions that any of you computer intelligent folk can provide will help! Thanks

It is to bad that you are limited to $100.00 or less. Because you have a 6 core CPU and a bigger card would go good it. But if you can't you can't I will link you the cards in your budget or at least $10.00 more.

The one card that falles into your budget range is the 6670 which isn't a very good card but for sure it isn't a bad one either. I hope this helps and good luck to you on what you add to your rig.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I took your advice and went ahead and spent a few bucks over what I was hoping to. I ended up getting the NVIDIA GTX 550TI with 1gig Gddr5 and 900mhz. It runs very smoothly and I'm very happy with the upgrade. Thanks again

You must not have read reviews on the 550, it's not the best pick in the price range.

"ndeed the GTX 550 Ti is faster than the 5770 - by around 7% - but then the GTX 550 Ti costs 36% more. At the other end of the spectrum is the 6850, which is 7% more expensive on average for 25% better performance. Even the GTX 460 768MB is going to gnaw at NVIDIA here so long as it’s still on the market; it’s 15% faster and yet it’s $20 cheaper. It’s with a dash of Alanis Morissette irony that while having so-so graphical performance the GTX 550 is a remarkable compute card compared to similar AMD cards, but at the same time a CUDA memory bug sliped by before the product shipped."

I hope that you didn't get the card because I have two of them? This was my first build and at the time I was putting this together I started to run out of money so I had to take some short cuts.

To this day I regret getting the two 550 Ti's and that PSU. If I had known that the 550's were one of the worst gaming cards that nVidia had put out. I would have waited untill I could save up more money.

Same thing with my PSU. Plus I didn't know about Tom's hardwear untill one month after I put it together. Even though I have had a few years in A+ computer repair and I still made this error.

Out of all the GPU's I listed not one of them was a 550 Ti. I can't play games like BF3, Skyrim, etc on anything but low settings and low res. Even though I don't play them anyway but my youngest son does.

He said he hates my cards because he can't fully injoy the game. Well that works for me it keeps him of my rig. Plus you have to remember that I have two you only have one.

On the good side if you are into RPG, RPS, Puzzels, and flash games then they will work for you for example. One of my favorite RPS games is Shogun 2 total war.

I can play on ultra settings with everything turned on like AA set to max. On the campain map I get 25 to 30 fps and on the battle map I get 60 to 80 fps. My res is 1920 x 1080 so those kind of games will work.

Sorry for the long wind about the 550's but ever since I have be on here I always tell the people who are thinking about getting one not to. They charge to much money for what you can get out of it. Anyway I wish you good luck on your GPU.
