Upgrading from a single 6870 to CF

Hi,

I'll cut to the chase: I play BF3 on 1080p.

My specs:
Intel i5-760 | Intel p55wb | Kingston 8GB | Sapphire 6870 | WD 1T green | Hec 500vn 2dx | Compucase 6k31

I'm planning on:
*Getting a second 6870 for xfire purposes. obviously i'd have to replace my case (probably Antec 1100) and MBoard.
*Overclock the cpu.

My questions are:
1. What MBoard would you guys recommend on?
2. Is my power supply enough for all that?

Thanks

I suggest instead of going through all that trouble just upgrade to a single more powerful card.
Your PSU is not considered quality and will go on the upgrade list as well!

+1 ^ Good advice from rolli59.
Look for a quality psu regardless.
My short list would include Seasonic, Antec, Corsair, XFX, or PC P&C.

So you guys say that it doesn't pay off?
Even if I can get the second 6780 real cheap (a friend)?

It's a real dilemma for me cause I wanna OC my cpu as well, so I have to look for a better p55 MB anyway.

What are your thoughts?

sell the 6870 and get a better card.

Upgrade and do a crossfire 6870 and purchase a new PSU.

Thanks for your answers.

One last question though:
If I want to start off by OCing my cpu only (and put off the xfire plans by that), what MB should I look for?

Will the Intel DP55WG do (for example) ?

Pretty tight... around 100-130$. anything cheap but efficient that does the job.
Are my options that many?

I recommend this mobo, even tho Biostar isn't the best mobo company I heard this board is very good, overclocks well, and comparable to more expensive boards.

And it meets your budget!!

Sorry I didn't see that you had the LGA 1156, if thats the case than there really isn't anything that would be a worthy upgrade.

Whats wrong with the MOBO you have?

1156 motherboards are poor value now unless you can get a cheap used one on Ebay an 1155 board and new CPU or just a better single GPU are far better options. BTW don't get an Intel board if you want to overclock.

The one you have is different, the one I showed you is an overclocking SLI/Crossfire motherboard

It's a different socket.
I need a 1156 MB.

Found this on Ebay:

Is it any good?

The card isn't made any more, on new egg its average rating was 3 stars and a lot of 1 star reviews that said it stopped working after a year, and I think It has no crossfire/SLI support. So I say no
