Can I plug a 4 pin supplementary CPU power into an 8 pin motherboard?

I have an AMD FX 4170 on an ASRock PRO3 970 motherboard. Although I am looking to upgrade soon, for the time being, I will be using my current 300w PSU, which only has a single 4 pin connector. I am not going to be buying any adapters, since I will be buying a new PSU in the future anyways. Any thoughts? The full specs should be in the signature.

It won't be working with only one because this socket requires more power so you won't be able to boot ... also i don't expect a 300w to do the job lol

+1, the CPU requires around 100W when idle http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/amd_fx_8150fx_8120fx_6100_and_fx_4170,7.html , what graphics card are you using?

Thanks for your time guys. I currently have it working with the 4 pin power lead for now, but for some extra stability for overclocking, I have ordered a CM 500w PSU, and I am also currently looking at a cooler. Anyways, the important thing is that it worked, and it is stable under many hours of Prime95. For those that are wondering what the specs are, here you go.
