Which CPU/mobo for my budget gaming pc with GTX660

So I recently noticed that my AMD Phenom 9950 X4 @2.6 was bottlenecking my GTX660, so I am upgrading my cpu/mobo.

The amount I am spending will be around 170$ for the CPU+mobo(+RAM).

I was thinking of a Phenom II X4 965 BE as CPU but I'm not sure if that's the best I can get.. I saw in the Far Cry 3 CPU benchmarks that the FX4xxx had much more FPS than the Phenom X4 965. But that was paired with the HD7970.

So what CPU & mobo+RAM do u suggest?

Thanks in advance! And merry christmas all :)

  1. Doesn't have to be AMD, but I think intel is way too overpriced for my budget now?
  2. intel is better and will be better for the long run if you get a 1155 socket cpu+mobo because you will be able to upgrade in the future to an i5 or i7 wich is alot better than amd.
  3. You could go with Pentium G860 but the Phenom II X4 965BE is a good choice just match it with a AM3+ board like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157319
  4. Can I use a 4pin cpu connector on an 8pin board?
  5. Yes in most cases.

Okay thanks, I will be ordering a 4-to-8-pin adapter if I need one. And could someone explain why the Phenom 965 will be better than an FX4xx?

Hmm so it would be a better idea to get one of those FX? (for gaming)
