A friend of mine has a Dell Latitude CPX laptop. For some reason it shuts down without any warning. This happens when she is using the battary and when pluged directly into the wall. Any ideas?

it could be related to the heat that the proceser puts out that can cause it to shutdown a good thing to do would be to back it up and reformat and reinstall windows

Cooling fan may not be running.
CPU and cooling fan status can be checked in the bios.
Try downlaoding a bios flash update from Dell. This usually corrects CPU overheating problems which cause mystery shut downs.
