Good gaming CPU

Well I am building a computer and I was wondering what a good gaming cpu would be.

Is that really worth the money? Or should I go with something cheaper.

Overkill. A Core i5 3570K is the perfect gaming CPU if you overclock, and the 3570 is great if you don't overclock. The 3770K is meant for gamers and video editors, because games don't require 8 threads, hell they barely need 4 CPU cores, so a 3570/3570K will be more than sufficient for your needs.
