Is there a better graphics card than the Nvidia GT 640 around the same price? which is around £50-£75

$110-$125 usd not sure what that would be in your currency. but i am guessing around your price range

NVIDIA® GeForce® 7050 + nForce® 620i

you're fine with a PCI 3.0 card.

just watch for a PCI 2.1; it may give some problems depending on how up to date the BIOS is.
