the advantages of using hdmi is that it carries over audio as well for monitors with built in speakers.

DisplayPort is the superior technology. And if your monitor is over 1080p definitely don't use HDMI as it can't drive that many pixels.

Exactly what monitor are you planning to buy? Which type of input port works best is dependent upon what types of inputs are available. DVI, HDMI and Displayport all have advantages and disadvantages.

Have a read through these for more information:

DVI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
HDMI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
DisplayPort: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Port

Personally I owuld choose to buy a monitor that has a DisplayPort input if I was in the market for a new monitor.

a HDMI connection also will carry sound but if you link your speakers to your mobo (or sound card)a display port may be your best option because you can buy adapters to conert it to dvi or vga

Actually I wanted to know what manufacturer and model so I could look it up to see what connectors it has available. Also what video outputs are available on your video card. I'm assuming that it has all three, is that correct?
