Hey there guys!

Current System Specs

Athlon x3 455 Rana 3.3ghz
Asus m5a78lm-lx
2x2 GB RAM DDR3
Sapphire 7950 Dual-X
Hyper 212+
Cooler Master 500w

At the beginning this setup was a budget build, however, PC gaming has gotten more serious and im looking to upgrade my build! :D  I'm planning to upgrade to an i5 3570k from an AMD system and I have a few questions about my investment.

1) Will an upgrade to an i5 3570k be significant coming from an Athlon x3 455?

2) Max overclock for i5 3570k on an Asrock z77 extreme 4?

3) Will the i5 3570k bottleneck my 7950? (I know the athlon x3 455 was quite a bottleneck :na: )

4) Is it absolutely necessary to reinstall OS?

Thanks for reading my post!

1) Yes

2) Every chip behaves differently. @4.2 and above the temps will begin to ratchet up on Ivy.

3) No

4) Yes, keep in mind that Windows is bound to the motherboard they are installed on.

1) Will an upgrade to an i5 3570k be significant coming from an Athlon x3 455?
lol yeah... even i3 is on par with phenom.... unlocked i5 is beast

2) Max overclock for i5 3570k on an Asrock z77 extreme 4?
dont justify that each cpus is same, even similar 3570k form the same store has different potential. save freq for longetivity is under 4.5... mak sure you get 212 evo cooler :)

3) Will the i5 3570k bottleneck my 7950? (I know the athlon x3 455 was quite a bottleneck )
hell no. even 7970 crossfire cant be bottlenecked with this i5 beast

4) Is it absolutely necessary to reinstall OS?
absolutely.... you will replace both CPU and MOBO which will be different driver and mac address (need to buy new win OS)

Also my recamend is Buy "TRANSCEND" ram .reason other manufacturers give only 1year warenty but transcend give "lifetime warenty" so no need to warry about problems. Then cost "no more dealer and distributer " because anyone can "buy directly in TRANSCEND.COM" so cost lower then other.
Buy axeram 2100mhz oc enabled so future proof.
transcend ssd with lifetime warenty.

My recamend is fill all slots dont see capacity. see mhz in board and ram.Reason mhz is the key to achive speed. if board support 1600mhz u insert 1333mhz its waste because not get full speed of ram slot. if board support 1333mhz u insert 1600mhz its also waste of money (1333mhz ram is cheaper than 1600mhz)also u not utilise full speed of ram. (4x1600mhz=6400mhz =6.4ghz) vs (2x1600=3200mhz=3.2ghz).
All latest games not want more than 8gb ram so 2gb x4 or x6 transcend axe ram is enough.

Thanks for the quick reply guys, what is the lowest ivy bridge processor that will not bottleneck a 7950?

I'm looking to get more bang for my buck if there are cheaper options (i3 or FX processors - if I stay on AMD) for my main purpose which is gaming.
