AM3+ Motherboard slot broken or CPU broken?

Hey guys I was wondering if the motherboard slot is broken or if it is the CPU. Alright so I was on my newly built computer I was testing it and the CPU's heat was high for it being on idle and full load, so I turned it off to re adjust the heatsink (it was on it's side because I haven't finished yet) I did not have the heatsink fully on so I thought that may be the problem. But then after about a hour of trying to get the heatsink "completely on" I got angry and forced it and the CPU or the motherboard AM3 slot stopped working, and I'm not sure if it's the motherboard or the CPU. I think it's the CPU because all the pressure and what not on it but also I put my finger on it to see if it was heating up and it wasn't, which leads me to think that it could be the MOBO. Please help me cause I'm not sure which part to send back.

Sounds to me that the heat sink is gone.
