Hello,

I bought a Canon A95 digicam about 2 months ago and just realised that when
zooming all the way to the long end a dark circle come to focus. See the two
examples here:

http://www.pbase.com/melissakos/a95_problem

This circle does not appear on the wide end, and gradually appears as you
zoom in, reaching this size on max zoom.
I bought the camera from the internet (Ldlc, French) and what I need is some
advice as to who I should turn to, as it's the first time I'm having such a
problem. Do I turn to where I bought it? Do I go to Canon here ? And if yes,
how ? A couple of emails I sent them (local canon) had no replies.

On top of that, I am curious about the problem itself. Is this dust or dirt
on the censor ? Can that be, in p&s's ? Or is it something on the lens
itself? I'm afraid I will not have my camera for long time if I send it to
Canon, which I would naturally like to avoid...

Needless to say, the camera is covered by guarrantee.

Opinions ? Suggestions ?

Thanks in advance
Kostas

Trash on the sensor shows up when the lens is stopped down. Both of these
shots are f/8. Exif doesn't say what mode. I'm going to guess as you go to
full zoom the max aperture is reduced, hence why these only show at zoom.
Set the camera to aperture priority and set the most stopped down you can
f/8 or more and take a wide angle shot of the sky to see it it's still
there. Sure looks like something on the sensor to me.

Dust.

Probably on the lens, but it's hard to say.

Gently brush the front element with a lens pen or something similar. If
it's on the front, that should dislodge it.

If it's INSIDE the camera - send it back to Canon for cleaning.

Yes

Looks like sensor dust to me.

Actually, many P&S cameras have an integrated sensor/lens assembly so
they'll have to replace the entire optical assembly (probably cheaper
to replace the camera).
