This is my build and I still get lag on BF3 even on Medium. Why isnt this enough to run smoothly and what do I need to be able to run it on at least high, if not Ultra settings?

i7-2600k @ 3.4
AMD HD 6950 2G
16G DDR3 1600
Corsair HX650

Try a GTX 570, GTX 580, GTX 670 or GTX 680. While the Radeon hardware is great, the drivers probably have a lot to do with your issues. I waited a year for the laggy stutter to be corrected in BFBC2 when I had Radeon 5850s in crossfire. After none of the monthly drivers fixed the issues, I picked up a GTX 580. The performance was so great, comparatively, I picked up a second 580 two weeks later to see if it the stutter I had with the 5850s was the norm with multi-card setups. I found it was not.

you should be able to max out the game normally at least in 1080p, unless you are using a ultra high resolution, something is wrong there, have you updated your Video Graphics drivers, download the latest version on the AMD website

HAHA yes because only nvidia cards can run BF3 right, right? Your system should run BF3 just fine on Ultra with AA off. There is another issue you are having. Was it a fresh install? Did you move over from an nvidia card to the 6950 and not get rid of all the nvidia drivers? I ran BF3 on Ultra with AA off on my single 5870, now I have 7970s in xfire and it runs smooth like butta.

you could have an application running in the background that is eating up your system's power. it could be spyware or even a program that you use day to day. Press control + shift + esc to get to task manager and open up the processes tab. See if anything is using up a lot of RAM or CPU power.

I have only had the 6950, never had a nvidia. I checked my processes and it all looks normal. My RAM is only running 3% on idle. Is there something I need to change in Catalyst maybe? Also having trouble with Catalyst haha I download the 12.4 version many times and at keeps telling me I have 11.5. Makes me pull my hair out.

One of the other threads I was in just gave me an idea. If you just put the build together and are getting bad frame rates right off the bat, make sure that you have your card in a PCI E slot that has substantial bandwidth. Example: x16

Dont buy into this driver thing, the gtx 600 series of driver are the worst especially at launch. Things have smoothed out a bit now, this generation I still in my opinion believe that AMD has the better more stable drivers for its 28nm generation.
