Windows says not 64 but it is

i have windows 7 64 bit running and installed.. when i tried windows xp 64 i kept getting blue screen right after driver installs and getting ready to load windows partion manager for install partion destination. so i ran virtual pc loaded the img and it says my machine is not 64 bit i have a dell xps 720 orig vista 64 bit in install cds from factory

Your Widnow XP 64 bit need to be installed on a PC with CPU with 64 bit support. Since you are running it on a VM, I recommend you to check the VM settings as well as go to bios and check VT-d and VT-x is on.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are trying to install Windows XP 64 bit in Virtual PC? That is not possible, as it will only accept 32 bit OS.

you can try Sun's Virtual Box as virtualization software.

it allows 64bit guest OS's
