Hello,

Can you please tell how pratically I can do the white balance
adjustment with the canon ixus 700 digital camera underwater?

Please explain me if I better do it at the depth I will work on ? I
will have to repeat it if I get to shallower?

Please explain me how to do it, I need to take a white tablet with me ?

Thanks,

Mario

Yes, I use a white slate. Some folks just use the palm of their hand.

shoot raw if your camera has it...get a new camera if it doesn't...and worry
about color balance when you get home.

Laminated, or just carry them in a ziplock bag. But I agree with your
main suggestion - shoot in RAW and deal with color balance later.

either
shoot in RAW and sort it later
use custom white balance on a white dive slate at the depth you're
taking photos - will need to re-balance as depth changes (typically every
5-10m for good viz), although beyond 25m everything is blue anyway
take WB off sand on seabed
manually adjust WB setting to get colder as you go deeper
sort it in photoshop later
use a powerful strobe to make the entire issue mute....just remember to
swap the WB back to about 5700k before using flash ;-)

RAW is your best bet as you've got a much greater scope for exposure errors,
then it's additional lighting.

check this link http://www.seafriends.org.nz/phgraph/water.htm for depths at
which colours disappear

to qualify that, i'm assuming you don't have external strobes and are trying
to shoot using available light.
you will almost always get better results using an external strobe to light
your (close) subject.

I would add that even when shooting RAW, which I always do now, I often
still use the warm cards as that often makes the workflow faster.
