I have q9650 3.0 running on ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo Intel P45 Socket 775 Motherboard
Ultra ChillTEC Thermal Electric CPU Cooler With Controller --------------- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4387079&CatId=4314
8GB Patriot Dual Channel Viper PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz (4 X 2048 MB)
EVGA 2GB GTX 285 FTW ------------------- http://www.evga.com/articles/00445/
OCZ / GameXStream / 1010-Watt / ATX / 120mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI-Ready / Active PFC / Power Supply http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3010720&CatId=2036
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB for the system + 3 other 1 TB for storage.

The reason I'm thinking of upgrading. Some times system just shuts down. Blank screen ( no blue screen at all) mostly happens when watching videos full screen or playing games)
In the past people suggested it was motherboard or PSU. I changed my motherboard about 2 years ago because old one died but the problem still remained. It could be Video card or PSU.
I'm currently running 4 HD's, 2 CD drives, Ultra ChillTEC, 2GB GTX 285. Power supply should be more than enough to supply power for these devices.

Approximate Purchase Date: No set date. Maybe 1-2 months. Want to spend some time getting some feedback.

Budget Range: No set budget. Look at parts i'm thinking of upgrading and considering.

System used for : Some gaming ( Call of duty, Battlefield, Diablo 3 etc), watching movies,

Am I buying a monitor: No. I have 24" 1900 x 1200 Samsung 245BW

Overclocking: No / Maybe

Parts to Upgrade: Considering the following. Some may not be needed to change

CPU q9650 to i7-3820? ---- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1884773&CatId=22

Motherboard Prefer Asus or EVGA. Z77? I'm really no into OC'ing but could consider it. More USB and Sata I prefer over a less.

Video card Nvidia or Radeon i'm open to suggestions. I know this is very vague. prices could range from a few $100 to $1000. I prefer GTX 680 or maybe even GTX 690.
Will it be worth to do such upgrade on a q9650?

PSU Corsair CMPSU-850AX 850 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified
Modular cable system over too many cables on current OCZ
Current PSU has over 11,000 hrs of use.

CPU Cooler Corsair CWCH100 Hydro H100 CPU Liquid Cooler it fits most if not all sockets.

Case Corsair 600t because you can hide wiring on the back / cleaner look.

Additional Comments: I don't want to miss lead anybody with the part list above. It is just a consideration. If I can just plug a GTX 680 or 690 and call it the day it would just fine. I'm looking to have good gaming experience. Gaming doesn't have to be at everything maxed out.

I think that is it for know. I'm sure I missed to mention something somewhere. Will edit and answer any questions.
Thank in advance for any help / advice.

overclocking or no. it changes the build quite a bit since i will have to change the motherboard and the chip

if you are overclocking (although changing to a hyper 212 evo can save 50 bucks while not losing too much performance)

if no overclocking (the hyper 212 is nice to keep temps down)

in both builds i assume that you will be doing SLI in the future

also, these 2 builds perform about the same as they build you provided for much less
