How good is the Radeon 6850

How good of a graphics card is the Radeon 6850? What kind of games can it play? Will it be able to play future games?

It's low end, slightly slower than my old HD5850.

Depends on what games and what resolution your monitor is. If your talking 1080p, it's not very good.

if you are looking to upgrade to a 6850 I would suggest getting a 6870 instead...its only a little bit more but you wont regret it...and as geekapproved stated it depends on your resolution....a 6870 can handle bf3 at 1680x1050 on high fairly well so that can give you an idea on how this card can perform.

6850 is a mid level sub fullHD game player.

At 1440x900, 1280x1024, 1366x768 you will be fine, IE, most modern games (Skyrim, BF3, Diablo 3 etc) on >=high settings.

For 1920x1024, the minimum you'll need is 6870, hell I only have a 1280x1024 res monitor, but got a 6870 for future proofing and I can player *everything* over 60FPS easy. *Except Metro 2033, cause that game sucks.*

Ok then what if I were to get the 6950? That is the one I was planning on getting but I wanted to cut costs a little and the 6850 was cheap.

No, you would be much much better off with the AMD 7850

Unless you find a great price on the 6950, it's a great card. The newer generation for price/performance is what teh_gerbil has said, the 7850.

The 6850 is still great. My friend has one and he can almost play BF3 at ultra in 1080p. Once he drops one or two settings from ultra, it's perfectly fine. So if you're on a budget, not willing to put more money in it, and wondering if it will do the job, YES it will! Of course, you could ALWAYS get better. But it definitely is a very fine card!

The 6950 1GB is a great card and can be found cheap sometimes. Otherwise I'd suggest a 7850.

You still haven't told us what resolution your running so nobody can really help you.
