Apologies if this is the wrong place to pos this query......

If I attempt to tame a beast, I get a message that I can't have more than
one pet at a time.
If I examine my Beast Taming ability and attempt to train a pet ability, I
get a message that I do not have a pet.

The two states seem mutually contradictory. Anyone know what's going on?

My pet disappeared after a death at the edge of the starting Island where I
fell off the edge in such a way that I was unable to reach my body in order
to recover it. The only thing I could do was to kill my spirit by swinning
into deep water and letting it drown and accept the ressurection penalty.
(Curious thing, the ability to kill your ghost).

So, I can't get rid of a pet that isn't there in order to tame a pet that
would be quite useful.

In the words of the poet....help!

Either your pet is dead and you need to resurect it using your pet skill to
do so, or it is not around so you need to call it to you.
One icon looks like a green glowing hand, the other is a wistle icon. Try
them both. One will work and your old pet will appear near you.

No, they are refering to different things. Taming a new animal requires the
complete absence of a current pet. Teaching a pet a new skill requires that
your pet be alive and nearby. Your pet is missing or dead, so it isn't
completely absent, thus you cannot tame a new one. Your pet is missing or
dead, so it isn't by your side, thus you cannot teach it anything.

Well, you could have just gone back to the spirit healer and requested it
that way.

If your pet simply vanished because you died, then all you need to do is
hit your pet summon button, and whistle your pet back. If your pet has
died, then you just need to cast the ressurection spell to bring it back.

Until you tell your pet to permenantly get lost, or stick it into a stable,
you will still have it, and will be unable to train a new one. The "train a
pet ability" feature in your creature menu requires that your pet be alive
and at your side in order to teach it.
