Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Definitely before September ends (so within 1 and a half months), wanting to buy it as a birthday "present" for my sister (she's using her iPhone to browse the internet..)

Budget Range: $300 before rebates. I think it is definitely do-able, so I see no reason to go over this price.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Regular internet, Microsoft Office/Excel, a bit of gaming like Minecraft (the 6450 will do just fine, doesn't need to be amazing.)

Are you buying a monitor: No, no need for a mouse and keyboard either.

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, amazon.com, microcenter (about a 1 and a half hour drive to Tustin, not a big deal.)

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Hawthorne, California, United States

Parts Preferences: by brand or type: Intel based w. AMD gfx

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Please also list specific software or games you're using: Google Chrome, Microsoft Office/Excel, Minecraft & Counter Strike (for her sons).

I already have a build in mind (NewEgg wishlist link):

CPU: Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz LGA 1155 -- I will probably upgrade this to a G630 that's at MicroCenter for $50 if it's still on sale when I do decide to buy everything.
MOBO: BIOSTAR H61MGC LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (If I decide to upgrade this in the future, how much could I upgrade before the CPU/MOBO becomes a bottleneck?)
PSU: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 (CMPSU-430CXV2) 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply (I'm pretty sure this is overkill..)
RAM: G.SKILL NS 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Case: NZXT Source 210 S210-001 Black “Aluminum Brush / Plastic” ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Optical Drive: LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM
Hard Drive: Will get a cheap 160GB HD on eBay. (~$20)

That totals to around: $300 before shipping.

I'm pretty sure MicroCenter has a 'buy a CPU, get so and so off of a MOBO' sale all year round. The problem is they don't have that MOBO at MicroCenter, what would you recommend? Or should I just get the CPU at MicroCenter and buy the MOBO on NewEgg?

Thank you for any suggestions. :)

get this psu

http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=65317&vpn=PPCMK3S400&m...

get this board

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

get this case instead

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0074V2UXI/?tag=pcpapi-20

keep in mind that the g620 wont run memory at 1333mhz. might want to get this instead

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

when you buy your hard drive, make sure that it uses a sata interface or else it wont work. most sata hard drives are above 250gb

you might want to consider something stronger than a 6450. the intergrated graphics isnt that much slower than the 6450. at least get a card like a 6670. the 6670 is basically the lowest card for medium setting gaming

The Build is good. What I'd get for $300. The 6450 can handle Minecraft but not much more. And it is upgradeable.

The only games that will be played are Minecraft and Counter Strike, which the 6450 can handle fine. 1333mhz memory is cheaper and easier to find, and the PSU is fine too. The board might be better (I don't trust Biostar), and the case is really just preference.

1333mhz isnt supported on the g600s

if it is just counter strike and minecraft, why not stick with intergrated? its not that much slower

1. The BIOs will automatically downclock the memory.
2. Pentium's HD Graphics are really bad. Almost as bad as EDIT: Even worse than my Nehalem i3's IGP. (15 FPS in Minecraft, really?)

I'd go with a A10-3870k at that price point, will give much better gaming performance than a 6450, plus it's not like she's going to be doing much CPU-heavy tasks.

Honestly I don't think the AMD CPU would lose in anything... Maybe SuperPI.

Ok, Since Minecraft uses more CPU power than a GPU then you're right, you don't need a godly GPU. Here is something:
CPU: Pentium G630 $50 @ Microcenter
Mobo: MSI H61M-P31(G3) $55 @Newegg
GPU: XFX 6570 $63 @Newegg
RAM: Kingston Hyper X $26 @Newegg
PSU: Rosewill Stallion Series RD500 2DB $45 @Newegg
HDD: Refurbished 160GB SATA $35 @Microcenter
Optical: LG DVD Burner Black $18 @Newegg
Case: Rosewill R218-P-BK $25 @Newegg
Total:$317 with shipping and before rebates.

Let me tell you something. It is nearly impossible to make a computer for $300, even for $500. You'd be better of going to buy a laptop or something. But hell it's fun to build computers. Don't expect to be playing with any high settings(or however it is in Minecraft). If you keep that computer, You're going to have to upgrade CPU, GPU, PSU, and add more RAM sometime soon. Sorry, it's just $300 isn't realistic.

Nah, my friend has a Phenom II with a 5450 and it plays smoothly on everything enabled. With a mod called Optifine it works even better.

There's a mod to run Minecraft called Optifine, makes it a lot smoother, even with the integrated graphics on a G620 it will run fine (family computer, tested it). So I don't see the need for the graphics card upgrade. The main priority isn't gaming, like I said in the initial post, but I definitely think that the 6450 is adequate for Minecraft on medium (maybe even high settings with Optifine). Thanks for the MOBO suggestion though, will definitely look into it.

No problem. You could downgrade to a 6450. have you looked at the prices of the Core 2 Duo? I know it's not a recent sockett but it will beat a G620/630. I benchmarked it.

Bought the CPU (G630), case, RAM, and HDD yesterday.

I was wondering if a 6670 would work with the CX430V2...

Yes, it will run fine. Heck, you could even stick a GTX 670/7970 in there and it would run fine.

^ Not recommended but yea, as long as you're not pushing it with stress testing or overclocking.
