Placing an old graphics card on a new motherboard

Hi Guys, recently i had to buy a new motherboard ASUS P5G41T-MLX3 , which is an entry level DDR3 motherboard. I had my old graphics card ZOTAC GEFORCE 9500GT,512mb, DDR2 in a perfectly running condition, so i just wanted to know if i could use this card on the motherboard. I consulted one of the tech guys in the area and he said that " the system may crash if you use this DDR2 card in the DDR3 motherboard" . Is it true??...please help..

My system configuration is:

Intel core 2 duo 2.66 Ghz
kingston 2gb DDR3 RAM
Frontech 450W psu

got bit head of myself then and the system will run fine should do anyway i have an old test rig which has an old ati 2600 in with ddr3 board works fine
