By reading the fine manual that comes with the 350D? Isn't it a little late

If it's an EZ series flash, then it only supports TTL. It will always
fire full power so you can only use it manually, there will be no flash
metering done by the camera.
Canon's digital EOS line requires E-TTL. You'll need an EX series flash
for this.
