6850 worth $100 more than 7750?

If I get the 6850 then I'll have to upgrade to the corsair builder series cx430 while I wouldn't have to parade for the 7750. Is it really worth the money spent for a new psu? I'm looking for a good video card that can run games on high with a 1920x1080 resolution.

More about 6850 worth 7750
  1. it would be worth it to me because I wouldnt be satisfied with the fps at that resolution with the 7750 it will struggle. If I were you I would pay a little more and get a 6870 you wont regret it.
  2. What prices have you found for your psu & gpus?
IMO for gaming - get the best you can afford - makes you happy for longer.

  3. I looked at the corsair cx430 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-139-026&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo

And the 6850 was about 145 on newegg while the 7750 was 105 on newegg. I'm running a 7450 now so would either of one be a huge jump?
  4. And these are my specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03154290

I'm not sure if I could run either on my current system, because it seems the 7750 can but the 6850 can't. I will not be overclocking though
  5. what i would personally recommend is getting a psu alone, then getting the rebate. then wait till a 6850/7770(1 pin models) or a gtx 460(if you have a 2pin psu) gpus constantly cycle through sales
  6. Go with the 6850 or 6870, however the best value for money for FullHD gaming would have to be 7850 at the moment, but if that's too dear the 6870 is a very nice contender.

Your primary concern is your 300W PSU. You cannot run a 6850 from a 300.

A 7750 will not provide the framerates you want, but will work with your current PSU.

Let these guys source you a cheap but good PSU, and go with a 6870 or 7850 GFX, you won't regret it.
  7. I also should have mentioned what teh_gerbil stated, a budget of around 200ish is nowhere the best idea to play games on 1920x1080 on high if you are playing graphically or cpu intensive games. it takes a good combination of a good gpu and a sufficient cpu in order to play games with respectable fps.
  8. Does anyone have good and cheap psu ideas? And I can sacrifice resolution for money because I'm on a pretty tight budget:/

whats your budget in total, because really, If you disregard rebates, the farthest you can go brand new is this + code RW15PSU06 to bring it down to 40.23 with shipping

you can also use antec vp

but almost any more. than your cutting to many corners. the PSU is the heart of a computer, and that's like giving a bad heart to an athlete, the athlete is strong, but cant do much without a capable heart.

this man speaks truth. perfectly worded actually. psu is like a heart, it pumps power to all of your systems.

What kinds of games do you want to play? I would suggest finding benchmarks for those games, to see how various cards perform. A HD7750 might satisfy you now; you've specified "high," not "ultra" or "max" settings, but you might still not quite get the frame rates you want for newer and/or more demanding games. You'd be happy for a few months perhaps, then remorseful because it isn't quite getting the job done and you will have wasted your money.
What is your total budget? For $42 shipped you can get the VP-450 (the only non active PFC PSU I could recommend); for $132 shipped you can get this HD7770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127664 which also has a rebate on it (if you play that game and win); for $135 shipped here's a HD6850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908
  12. if you want "high" @ 1080p get at least a 6870...
  13. Thanks Jtt for those sources. Specific games include diablo 3, driver San Fran, sc2, mw3, and a wide variety of games. I would even be ok playing at 1680 x 1050 as long as it ran at least 25 or 30 frames. Would I need a 6 pin for the 7750 btw?
  14. no six pin needed for the 7750 but I personally think you will be dissapointed, personally id get at least a 6770 or preferably a 7770
  15. The HD7750 does not need an auxiliary power connector.
Most people would not be happy with 30FPS, but that could be because 30FPS average and 30FPS minimum are two very different things. The former means you could be having bad lag spikes where it drops into the teens (or lower), but the latter may well be fine if the average is at least 40-45.
Some of those games may very well run "well enough" on a HD7750, but I don't know that, so I'm hesitant to recommend what might be a waste of money.

Edit: Overall, I'd agree with jjb's assessment that a HD6770 or HD7770 would be better choices.
  16. And those require a psu upgrade? Here are my specs btw http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03154290
  17. Yes, they would, but not a big one; $42-$46 should get something decent.
  18. do yourself a favor and upgrade your PSU, otherwise you really limit yourself, so save up a couple more paycheck then make your purchases...

I believe the hierarchy goes, 7750<6770<7770<6850<6870

I think so anyways its been awhile...

you get what you pay for in general
  19. Ok thanks guys, and does alone know a good source to find out how to upgrade a psu?
  20. like a psu install guide?

this pretty much covers all the bases

  23. The HD6870 requires two PCI Express power connections. Although the 430W Corsair is enough to power it, that card does not appear to come with the necessary 2xmolex-PCIE power adapter.
The only thing I'd alter in that hierarchy would be to make HD7770<=HD6850. Though I believe it is a little weaker in most things, there are a few games where the HD7770 is stronger, and it may not take as big a hit on some DX11 features. It also uses less power, which typically means a little less heat and a little less noise.

Edit: Thanks for the B.A., and yes, happy gaming.
  24. Oh and I don't really have a paycheck since I'm only 13:D oh well, I'll just wait for a while.
  25. start a lemonade stand ;) when i was a kid I made 80 bucks one day doing that!
  26. I've heard that the parasites have sometimes sent armed thugs to shut down those horrific threats to society. Be careful.
  27. huh? harmless
  28. I'm confused, the 6870 uses the 2 pcies? Or the 6850 or the 770?

the 6870 is 2 6 pins. the 6850 is generally 1 pin with a few exceptions(i.e sapphire vapor-x 6850 or the sapphire toxic 6850 because those had special cooling designs). the 7770 is 1 pin

I have read a number of news articles of lemonade stands and other time-honored examples of The American Way being shut down by the parasites because the right [expensive] permits were not obtained, inspections held, etc. Yes, it is insane.
  31. that is ridiculous, its teenagers and pre-teens we are talking about... anyways when I was a kid, it was a different time and place where gov't didn't intervene in everything!
  32. Yes, it IS ridiculous, and a damn shame. I hope to see those days again in my lifetime, but I'm not holding my breath.
  33. I hear ya JTT, I def hear ya! I live in the land of fruits and nuts... (Vegas) ...a microcosm of LA... and have to deal with these bs philosophies everyday...
  34. Just ordered the cx430 and the 6850! Thanks for the suggestions guys!
