Homebuilt advice

Hey guys

I need a new PC and decided to built my own. This will be my first homebuilt, and I was wondering what you think about the parts I've picked. By budget is 10.000 NOK(Norwegian krone), and I will probably be overclocking and maybe even slap in another GPU in the future.

Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
Intel® Core i5-2500K
Samsung SSD 830 Series 128GB OEM
Western Digital® Desktop Black 1TB
XFX ProSeries Core Edition 650W - Not sure about this one but I've read a good review.
XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB - On sale, same price as GTX 560 Ti

It's pointless to get a 2500K with a Z77 motherboard. You'll want this for your CPU instead - http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=660227

I've heard that Ivy Bridge gets hot while OC, although i have no plans to push anything, that's why I went for the 2500k. Do you think the 3570k is a better deal?

You lose functionality when you pair a Z77 with an i5-2500K. Especially if you plan to use a GTX 670 - you will lose PCI Gen 3 and you won't want to water down an expensive video card like that.

As far as the heat generation with Ivy Bridge - I've read all the reviews, benchmarks, etc - I've never really seen anything that really proves that Ivy gets hotter than Sandy on overclocking - even with my own experience, I have the 3570K and I haven't seen that happen yet. With the right cooler and the right air flow setup in your case, that's a bit of a moot point.

anyways,

the i5 3570k doesnt get hot until you rack voltages. stock voltage should be good for 4.2ghz, which is pretty much the max id go. if you are not overclocking, just get a i5 3450 and a h77 motherboard like the asus h77-v. heres a link if you need it

you dont need thermal paste. id also recommend getting a hyper 212 evo cooler for overclocking.

you also dont need the braclet but if you think you do, go ahead. i just touch my case before i touch my components.

Especially when the Hyper 212 includes a really good solution that's better than Arctic Silver and a lot of other compounds you can get.

Thank you, that Win 7 deal was cheap! I'll check it out. Okay I assume the thermal paste is pre applied then? Wasn't sure about that and that bracelet, bought them just to be sure

no, the hyper 212 evo comes with arctic cooling mx-4 which is good. its not pre-applied. they give you a small tube just like the noctua

I've never seen an aftermarket fan with pre-applied thermal paste - at least the good ones anyways. :lol:

Sorry I meant the stock cooler. I'll go for the stock fan for now, as I'll probably won't be OC'ing that much right away.

I was talking about air fans, not liquid coolers. I've seen some very cheaply made air fans with pre applied paste but the good $40 - $50+ ones usually don't.
