I want Dual Monitors - VGA and HDMI ports only.

I am wanting to buy this monitor as my second (HDMI -> DVI)

If I am understanding your setup correctly you have your first monitor already connected and are asking how to connect a second monitor via hdmi?
you'd basically need a hdmi(male) to dvi(male)cable

More or less yes. I just wanted to make sure I needed the male counterparts instead of female. I havent connected anything via DVI before, only VGA.

Do you have a dedicated video card? If do have a dedicated video card make sure that it has two video ports. Once you have both of them installed you just want to go to graphics properties and setup extended desktop. Both monitors will have the same desktop background but you will be able to have different windows open on each.

Modern cards from ATI and Nvidia can combine multiple monitors into a single resoluion. You then just use paint to stitch multiple desktop backgrounds together then set that new pic as the desktop background. As far as I know that's how you get a different desktop backgroun on each monitor.
