Help my buddy choose a video card

About a year ago I built my friend a rig off of a shoestring budget of $200 + old scavenged parts. Since then he's managed to upgrade his ram from 2GB to 8GB and replace his Rosewill psu with a Corsair. Now he wants to upgrade his video card and has about $200 to do so. We are split between a GTX 560, GTX 560 ti 384 core, and a 570. If he gets the 570 he'll have to wait a bit longer to make the extra money. Right now he only has an 8800GT. He plays at an extremely low resolution of 1280 x 1024 but will be getting a 1080p monitor as soon as he can, so whatever card he buys should be able to run things at 1920 x 1080. Even at his current low res, the 8800gt can only run new games on low settings.

His current specs are:

Intel Core i3 540 @ stock speeds/stock cooling
8GB G.skill Ripjaws DDR3-1333
Some random gigabyte 1156 board
XFX 8800GT 512mb
Corsair builder series 600w
WD 320GB sata II hardrive

Is a 570 worth the extra $50 and waiting time or should he just buy a 560/560ti right now?

Argh, damn I forgot about the low prices of the 480s. Those things are loud, power hungry monsters though. Idk if his corsair psu is enough?

  4. These things are basically heaters :P. But its extremely powerful..
It outperforms the GTX 560/ti but uses like twice the power to do so.
  5. No way it uses twice the power.. more like 1.5x.
  6. Well it was a bit exaggerated by me lol. Yeah it use almost exactly 1.5x for 10-15ish FPS gain in BF3
