No. We need to know what the actual model of motherboard you've got, or, if you're plugging into a sound card, what model sound card you've got.

win 7 on that is not going to be a pleasant experience.

i guess windows xp isn't really, either. maybe ubuntu.

what model number of asus pc?

and as mentioned 512mb is very low for windows 7

1gb is the minimum you would want to be using really

trust me ubuntu will be worse. especially if you have little knowledge about computers besides it might now be windows fault at all the sound could have stopped working because the sound chip failed.

since you cannot provide much info i will take a shot in the dark and most likely your mobo has sound by realtek so give it a try

not sure if you can get a windows 7 driver

may have to try a vista driver
