1gb pc100

hello, i have a supermicro p6dbe mobo. now at the moment i have 512mb of pc100 ram running at 100mhz(125mhz). now the manual says it'll accept 768mb @ 66mhz, or 1gb of registered pc100 or 1gb of edo. what happens if i go and plug 1gb of pc100 unbuffered ram in there and leave the jumper off(setting for 100mhz bus). will it just run at whatever rate it can or will it not even boot? thanks for any info.

thanks for the reply, now with registered memory, data is delayed for one clock cycle? now would lowering the clock cycle in bios bring it back to what unbuffered memory would be at? thanks.
