I have a $700 dollar budget for a computer alone, no monitor. I will mostly be using it for gaming, schoolwork and internet. I'm not expecting miracles with such a tight budget, but I'd like to be able to play games from two years or so ago comfortably without worrying about my computer imploding. I play mostly Steam games like Half Life 2 and Team Fortress, and I also play the Sims 3. I have played around with a few builds, but seeing as I have no clue what the heck I'm doing, I need some opinions and advice. Thanks in advance!

$685, no OS though.

Should handle current games fine, and if you overclock that Phenom you should hit almost 4GHz. So for $685 you get a Crossfire capable motherboard incase you want to buy a second 7850. A decent quad core CPU, 8GB of RAM, 2TB of storage and a good video card. You will be able to play just about any game on high to max settings pretty easily.
