Hey guys, Im really on the fence about upgrading my GPU. Mine is very outdated, But I dont want to buy a video card that I wont see noticeable difference in, and I dont want a card that is outdated next summer.

Here is my rig:

CPU:p henom II x4 945
PSU: Orion 600w
GPU: GTS 250 1gb
Mobo: ASrock 970 Extreme3 (Just upgraded)
Case: NZXT M59 (Just ordered)
Ram: 8gb DDR3 1333

So, Will an upgraded GPU get bottlenecked by my CPU? Any information and recommendations on to what video card I should Purchase would be great. Budget I would say is $175 and less. Thanks!

for that budget I would go with a radeon HD 6870. you'll see a huge difference in performance :)

Any other cards to look at? $175 for me is like top dollar, are there any good deals for like $130-$140 cards? I just dont want to blow $40 more for 5 fps increase

well, a step down is a 6850. you can also look at a GTX 550ti. they're a bit slower, but depending on what you need them for they should do the job. the thing with video cards is that unless your budget's $500+, everyone's going to recommend you to max out your budget. 5fps between 60 and 55 isn't a big deal, but the same different also means that on a more taxing game, it could be completely unplayable on the lesser card. anyway, for a serious upgrade, I wouldn't step lower than a 6850 or gtx 550ti. though they should do nicely for a few years if you're not looking to max out graphics settings

Alright, well Im seeing a HUGE Difference between the 550ti and the 6850, So. What would be the biggest differences between the 6850 and 6870. Also,

Is my CPU going to bottleneck at all, just for comparison purposes, whats the max card I could get without bottlenecking?

6870 is the best bang for your buck in that price range.

This one is $160 plus an extra $10 rebate.

A major CPU bottleneck would only happen with cards above the 6950, 560ti and gtx 480.
Of those the gtx 480 is the best value @ $200.
