Hello guys, I have a question. It says on Intel's site that the G645 can only support DDR3-1066. Does that mean that a DDR3-1333/1600 will not work with this CPU? I am building a new system soon and this processor fits perfectly with my tight budget. I am sorry, I'm noob when it comes to computer stuff.
Any help is much appreciated
Yes, the motherboard auto-downclocks the RAM speed, so it works. I thought it supported 1333 though, weird..
Anyway, I have a similar system being planned out friend! G860, MSI H61M-P31, Crucial RAM, and a 7770
It's all preference, I mean, Gigabyte & MSI both make really good boards! MSI doesn't have a high failure rate, I mean come on, every company has their own bad batches. Just so long as you go with either an ASUS, Gigabyte, or MSI board you'll be good - they're known as the big 3 for motherboards!
I have the G645 and MSI H61M-P31 built it a couple of days ago, this motherboard has OC genie for overclocking "K" series cpu.. very useful I think because practically you can't overclock on an H61 chipset..
if you mean downgraded it is slower, right? thanks for the quick replies guys
Not really! The frequency will be lower, but the latency will be better (i.e. 7-7-7-20, instead of 9-9-9-24). Some utils, like HWINFO64 can read the SPD, the tiny chip on the stick, that contains the table of parameters for different frequencies.
