Hey guys i couldnt decide which card to buy... Sapphire 7970 GHz edition 3GB or MSI TwinFrozr 7950 3GD5/OC cuz there is a $120 difference and i was wondering would it worth it.. The rest of my system would be:

CPU: intel core i5 3570k

RAM: Mushkin Enchanced Blackline 8gb 2133 MHz 1.5v XMP ready

MOBO: MSI Z77A-G45

thanks!

I looked at a few benchmarks for the 2 cards and found that you get about a 12-14% increase in performance from msi twin frozr 7950 3gb oc to the sapphire 7970 3gb. With the about 30% increase in price for the sapphire 7970 I'd just go with the msi twin frozr 3gb oc 7950.

the memory and the motherboard is a pretty poor choice.

1: extrra memory speed does nothing to increase system performance. get regular gskill ares 1600mhz cl9 2x4gb kit of memory at newegg for 44.99
2: the g45 boards are pretty basic and isnt a very good value for the money. id get the gigabyte z77x-ud3h motherboard instead.

as for the graphics card, id suggest the gtx670 but the 7970 is another choice worth considering. the 670 generally is better in nvidia games

AMD is updating the BIOS of the 7950 to the GHz BIOS, which increases the core clock and mem clock by a modest amount. Just get a 7950 and OC it. And BigTroll is 100% right. Get 1600MHz RAM, and a better board.

I heard that 7950 GHz edition is upcoming i might get it if they release till november. if not i want to go with 7970 GHz (cuz i am going to use it for a looong time at least 3 years)

*for the RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104255
There are engoguh conclusions about ud3h to make me not to buy it :kaola: so i need an ATX motherboard with at least 2 pci-e 3 slots and awsome features

The 7970/7950 GHz is an OC'ed version of the 7970/7950. Save some money, and do it yourself. Also, don't get an OC'ed card. You're paying for something you could EASILY do yourself.

@nebun AMD drivers have gotten A LOT better. Nvidia isn't immune to bad drivers either. Both have their share of good/bad releases. With 12.7, and today's 12.8 release, AMD has really changed, and their drivers are reliable. Never had an issue with their drivers. Better hardware is debatable. For gaming, the 660Ti-690 are great. But their compute is meh.

BUT! It has the reference cooler, so OC'ing will be loud, hot, and not a good experience altogether. Just wait. AMD will soon drop their prices because of the 660Ti release. The 7870 and 7950 will drop in price soon.

It'll still be cheaper than a ghz edition lololololololol.

but ya. you can easily get a damn good 3rd party cooler for $110...

Heck, get 2x 660 Ti's for SLI, and a 550Ti for PhysX, LOL! The 7970 GHz is $700 according to engadget.

Didn't think of a 3rd party cooler. Not a bad idea.

I a going to get GA-Z77X-UP4 TH motherboard and HD 7970 GHz if i can convince dad, if not i will go with 7950 i dont think it is a bad card at all all i loose is some clock and overclock potential and i am not a hardcore OC er so i think i might go with Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 (Double Fan) thanks all!

nope. get the ud3h and either a 7970 or a 670. the up4 isnt much of a upgrade other than thunderbolt which hardly anything uses it.

if you are looking for a 7950, you are better off with a 660ti or a 670. you could wait for amd to drop their 7950 prices (which is inevitable)
