I have a 300 watt full tower : I wish to add another 2 hard disks and an ABit geforce mx200 to the current list below will the power supply handle this or is it likely to blow is there any way of checking how much power all the components are using by the health check software.
Athlon 1400(266), 256 ddr, Gigabyte dxr (RAID),8 gig HD, 2 gig HD, cdrw, cd
nvidia tnt and 4 fans.

I'm wrestling with the same question. It boils down to individual amps.

With a 300W psu, I usually figure 180W on the 3.3/5 rail. The 1.4ghz will pull close to 85W, the memory and motherboard close to 25W, the 3 hard drives 20W, the cdroms around 15W, and the video card can yank close to 40W. It's gonna be close. There's usually a 10% over power leeway on most supplies, with the better supplies letting you go up to 25%. You'll go overbudget if you ever plug a GTS card in there. Unless you have a peltier running off your psu, it's tough to go overbudget with the 12v rail.

If you have any problems (bsod ALL the time, etc), head on up to at least a 350W. Possibily a 400W, but you'll pay out the sphincter (if not two) for it.
