I have an old intel 478 pentium 4 3.2 prescott processor. With a gigabyte motherboard and 2.5gb of ran and 500gb hitachi hard drive with 2 optical drives. it also has a saphire radeon9600
I realize this computer is old but i told my uncle i would try to fix it and get it back up and running if possible. So he can use it as a backup computer.
Ok here goes, when i press the power button the computer starts but the screen is blank and the power LED and the Hard drive LED are perminantly on, even if the hard drive isn't plugged in.
When i opened the computer i noticed that the case fans are running at a really low RPM.
I can't get it to post or beep. And i have tried swapping out the old PSU with a 430watt antec PSU but the same thing happens.
I have spare ram chips and an extra CPU aswell as an old radeon 9700Pro and an extra hard drive.
I examined the motherboard for blown or expanded caps and i didn't see anything out of the ordinary. i replaced the battery on the motherboard about a year ago. And Once a year i blow out the dust from the inside of the computer with a can of air.
