about how bad will my bottleneck be for 2x 2g 6950's with a amd 1100t processor oveclocked to 4ghz?
im not sure if i wanna dish out the money for a FX cpu and a 2nd 6950.
and right now i have a cooler master hyper 212 plus cpu cooler. how much more overclocking headroom do you think liquid cooling would give me?
i have a formula iv mobo which has very good OC abilities.

At 1920x1080 It would probably bottleneck, but I don't really think it will be that significant. Go for a crossfire 6950 (No problem), and when you have a lot of money try upgrading to 2600k/3570k and a Z77 motherboard.

I think you should just upgrade to an i5 2500k it is going to bottleneck pretty badly with that CPU even with overclocking

it wont make a bottleneck even ivy-bridge(i5-3570) dont worth the upgrade if you have X6-1100 ,it will be better to wait until hasewell for upgrade

I'd suggest take the money you have for the 2nd 6950 and switch to Intel i5-3570k or i7-3770k (if you can stretch your budget)

Get your 2nd 6950 later or even upgrade to a 7970 etc.

i feel like switching over to intel is going to be a pain but i'll have to do it eventually. If i got the 2nd 6950 now how much performance would i be missing out on because of the bottleneck?

you will miss out 25% because of the CPU bottleneck.
because you need a powerful CPU for SLI or CF
but X6 1100 wont bottleneck for single graphics card at all
so i suggest to buy GTX 670 is better idea than CF

you need core i5 for CF or SLI

:pfff:

That is the ugliest simplification I have ever seen :p

It depends on what cards you are running tbh.

Just for reference tho, my 965BE @ 4.0ghz bottlenecked by 6950 2GB 2-Way CF cards in Black Ops and BF3. Upgraded to 2500K and no more bottlenecks. Upgraded to two 670s and still no bottlenecks :D

yes i shouldn't have written at least because i5-2500 is perfect for any kind of CF or SLI ,but X6-1100 will be bottleneck for 6950 CF so i suggested to buy GTX 670 and keep the CPU
and if he interested in AMD i suggest HD7950

I do run an 1100T o/c to 4.0Ghz and 2 6950s (Dirt 3 editions with unlocked shaders) with absolutely no problems whatsoever.Infact in the main game I play ATM(BF3) @1920X1200,both cards are at 95-100%usage.(msi AB,gpuz and hardware monitors).

testing them with heaven benchmark and a few others, its showing great scaling, anywhere between 90-95%,again,this will be game/software dependant.I also get no microstuttering or lag.
I find it kinda funny that most of the comments come from people with intels.I agree the intels are faster(and thought of building an I7 build, but will I even notice any difference, nope.not to mention My intel upgrade would cost me around $8-900 just for a new cpu, mobo and ram,so in the end,it didnt justify the cost or difference in visuals, which would be nil,.

I Went ahead and got the 2nd 6950 and you were correct i get no bottleneck at all and can play any game at 1920x1080 max settings including battlefield 3 crysis 2 and metro 2033. And as you said in my games while playing i will get both cards at 95-100% usage. I am also gld that the micro stuttering issue people complain about isn't noticeable at all unless you are specifically trying to notice it and the fps is 40 or lower. I couldnt be happier with my upgrade thanks for your input. :)

i reread recently some benchmarks actually 2x6950 have the same performance of 6990 and gtx 680 ,even with the bottleneck of x6 1100t 6950CF will be as fast as HD7950.
the bottleneck looks so drastic with high settings but when adjust settings to ultra high with 16x antialiasing intel core i5 will be just 15% faster i think it don't worth the extra money, its good idea to keep your CPU and buy your 2nd 6950 .
