I'm having problems with my power2000 lithium battery (NP-FR1). The
first time I noticed was when I grabbed it as a spare and it was dead.
I figured that maybe I forgot to recharge it or something so I
recharged it and used it rather than the sony manufactured battery.
It seemed to hold a charge. I shot 250+ pictures with it at a tractor
show so, I figure maybe it was my error.
Well the other day, the info lithim battery life said I had 56 minutes
left and 2 minutes later the camera powered down.
I hadn't used it much. So I charged it back up and didn't use the
camera for a couple weeks. Yesterday, I go to turn the camera on and
the battery is dead.
The camera is a Sony V3 and it powers down if you leave it on so it
can't be that.
Any ideas?
Wes

How old is the battery? Li-ion cells have a limited life even when not in
use.

Hi.
"It powers down if you leave it on, so it can't be that"
If it is left switched on, it will probably go into a "suspend" mode, and
very often those do use some power, and will drain the battery.
However if you are switching off, and still finding a dead battery, then you
need a new battery, and non Sony versions will be pretty cheap. So save the
hassle and replace it.

Three years is sometimes quoted, and your battery is a lot younger than
that. So whilst it's unlikely that age is the problem, you might want to
check the manufacturing date.

I'd suggest sterlingtek.com for a good replacement.
My ENEL-1 replacement battery is better than the original, 1200 instead
of 800mAh.
Have nothing but the greatest to say for them. (Except that the morons
who ran the customer photo contest obviously don't actually take
pictures)
Anyways, they're a 5 star rated yahoo store, and they have a new
1300mAh battery for you for $40 w/ shipping. Shipping is free for
orders over $50, subtract $7.
Two brandy new 1300 mAh batteries for $64 flat. Can't beat that with a
stick.

I found that vidpro makes it, sent them an e-mail. Will see if they
stand behind it or in front of it

The way I do things like this is...
Buy another one (usually, they aren't that expensive if you get
something other than OEM).
If the maker says it's good, then it's user error; if it's bad, they
send another one.
Either way, I have a spare. With a camera, that's not a bad thing
anyway.
