OEM vs. Retail; That is the question!

Obviously with some things in the pc-building world, you'd prefere a retail version; Example being a CPU. But when it gets down to your DVD-ROM drive, can you save the extra money and buy the OEM version (assuming I don't care about the software)? What are your thoughts on the matter?

well ya, like for example a dvd oem drive is probably around $100 less than the retail. but then too, i mean, if you have no software for the drive, you're gonna just use it as a regular cdrom? so you figure software about $50, so really it averages it out a bit.

What about comps w/ 6 processors, and others w/ thousands like the Cray I used to use? Are they abnormal- wow, the ultimate sperm machine- 1000 testicles!
