My friend is looking to sell an iMac from ~3 years ago and wanted me to give an estimate of the price. Unfortunately, I don't know that much about pricing old hardware, especially Macs. If I recall correctly, it has a C2D 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 1680x1050 20" display, some crap graphics (probably something like a 5450M or (gasp) Intel GMA ), OS X Leopard 10.5.
I'm thinking this is worth about ~450, could anyone give me a better estimate?
Goto EBAY and find a bunch of comparable systems. Then give your friend both your estimate and the listings you used as comps. That removes any long term problems you might get into by setting too low or too high a price -- your friend has all the data they need to see what their system is worth.
Aside: if your friend has limited/no seller history then the selling price will be lower if they try to sell on ebay vs. established sellers.
