I seem to have installed the cards properly and they pass all benchmarks no problem but when i play any game with them the fps drops rapidly from 30-15 frames on games i could play at 45 frames max with single card.
I am positive i installed correctly i have 12.6 catalyst drivers and deleted my old ones before install.
The 6950's are diffrent brands ones a 6950 2gb HIS Ice Q and the other a XFX 6950 2gb both running at 840 core clock 1325 mem clock.
I have a formula V motherboard 1100T processor oc'ed to 4ghz and 800watt gold cooler master psu
I don't understand what the problem is. Could anyone help me out before i return the card in frustration?

So you made sure both cards have the drivers?

Okay, when you turn on crossfire, check the driver version by using this program:
GPU-Z (scroll down and download)
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Then once open, you can click on the bottom of the window with a little black arrow, and see the stats for each card.

I checked it and the only thing that is diffrent is bios version vendor and default clock settings but i have them set to the same clock now

Are both cards in a x16/x16 configuration? or x16/x8. You may want to check your motherboard manual to see the PCI-E slots have the same specs. For example, I am not asking if it's PCI-E 2.0 or 3.0.

You can also check with GPU-Z when the cards are in crossfire mode. Look for something that says PCI-E #.# x16 @ 16 #.#. Then check the numbers on both cards.

my motherboard says both are operating at x16

Furmark says that one of my graphics cards was running at 81% load and the other at 99% load during a benchmark. Is that the problem?

Have you played your games in full screen mode? Not windowed mode.

yes i play all my games fullscreen

If anyone else can chime in, feel free.

Check the GPU load for each card individually and run it on the same game. Although tedious, I am assuming it may be one of the cards.

do you have the latest CAP drivers from AMD? you can download them from AMD's webpage just below the 12.6, they just release 12.7 CAP1 these will help with your crossfire setup. If you already have installed this, I would remove all drivers and reinstall.

Good luck, I haven't heard of people having a lot issues with a HD6950 crossfire setup not sure what else it could be. I know brand doesn't matter and won't effect performance, but I'm not sure if each manufacturer has a separate BIOS for their cards and maybe if their running different BIOS then that is what is effecting performance? Not sure I'm probably wrong about that but keep the thread posted on your findings

This seems to have fixed the problem and the cards seem to be working appropriately. Thank you for the help!
