Not read through the link.

The usual suspect is that the boot files do not match up.
Go into start, run, MSconfig:
In this menu make sure the boot delay is the same on both win7 and xp, also make sure they are both active in each, what you may find is that your win7 may not recognise that you have xp and will miss it out on the boot file.

What you will also find is when you boot it will not give the option of windows Xp but it will say "Earlier Version of Windows".

The key will be your boot file.
