Dear Gang,

Firstly, allow me to state that I am a computer neophyte so explain things really simply, please.

I just bought a Kobalt M8160 rebuild with a SSD (240GB OCZ Agility 3). It is ostensibly running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and recently I have had the following problems.

1) The blue screen of death with this error message:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 2057

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: f4
BCP1: 0000000000000003
BCP2: FFFFFA8004FDC950
BCP3: FFFFFA8004FDCC30
BCP4: FFFFF80002DE2460
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\010113-7534-01.dmp
C:\Users\KOBALT\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-19999-0.sysdata.xml

2) Today, the black screen on no booting and the following messages:
PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable
Operating system not found

OK....after turning it off, taking out the battery, replacing it and turning it back on, the laptop started up again. I went into BIOS and found that the OS listed is VISTA. I didn't chance anything.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Try booting in to a Windows 7 repair disk! Or start up repair. Then get into cmd and run: bootrec.exe

Then:
/FixMbr
/FixBoot
/ScanOs (might not work)
/RebuildBcd
